Wbk Institute of Production Science
Description:
Karlsruhe Institute of Technology is a higher education and research organization with about 9,500 employees, 24,500 students, and a total annual budget of about 795 million Euros. KIT was established on 1st of October in 2009 as merger of the University of Karlsruhe, one of Germany’s leading research universities, and Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe, one of the largest research centers in the Helmholtz Association.
KIT will be involved in ProRegio with its Institute of Production Science (wbk)). wbk is part of the Department of Mechanical Engineering and has a staff of about 100 employees consisting of about 55 Research Associates. The department Production Systems is directed by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Gisela Lanza (http://www.wbk.kit.edu/english/21_90.php). The institute focuses on applied research, education and innovation in production science.

wbk will contribute to the research in ProRegio regarding production network design and re-design with advanced multi-objective optimization methods. Moreover, coordination in networks and ad-hoc order-allocation will be in scope of wbk‘s research activities. Due to its strong background in applied research and innovations in the manufacturing industry, wbk is taking the lead in specifying use cases and industrial applications.
