Laboratory for Manufacturing Systems & Automation (LMS)

Description:

The University of Patras was founded in the city of Patras in 1964 and it began functioning in the academic year 1966-67. Its creation contributed vastly to the decentralization of academic education in Greece. The University of Patras includes 24 Departments, with a large number of sectors and consequently a great range of disciplines, which operate 112 laboratories and 14 clinics fully equipped.
The Laboratory for Manufacturing Systems & Automation (LMS) is oriented on research and development in cutting edge scientific and technological fields. LMS is involved in a number of research projects funded by the CEU and European industrial partners.  Particular emphasis is given to the co-operation with the European industry as well as with a number of “hi-tech” firms. LMS is under the direction and technical coordination of Professor George Chryssolouris. It is organized in three different groups:

  • Manufacturing Processes Modelling and Energy Efficiency
  • Robots, Automation and Virtual Reality in Manufacturing
  • Manufacturing Systems

Role in the project :
Within the context of ProRegio, LMS is mainly involved in research activities towards the design and management of Distributed Production Networks, acting – among others – as leader of the respective Workpackage. Furthermore, LMS is heavily involved in various additional activities such as the materialisation of decision support tools, assessment methods, Augmented Reality tools, apps for user-integrated product-service design and more.
